Eleni Chatzichristou
Eleni Chatzichristou is the head of the Space Pillar of the EILST. Eleni holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Astrophysics (Ph. D.) from Leiden University, Leiden, The Netherlands (1999), a Masters of Science in Statistical and Dynamical Astronomy (M. Sc.), Observatoire de Paris & Universite Paris VI, Paris, France (1987)and a Bachelors of Science in Physics (B. S.) from the National University of Athens, Athens, Greece (1986.)
Her primary research interestes include among others: the Understanding of the Nature and Evolution of Active Galaxies using Deep Panchromatic Surveys; the Impact of Interactions and Mergers on Galaxy Formation and Evolution; the Use of Integral Field Units for the Spectroscopic Mapping of AGN and their Hosts; the Implementation of Innovative Technologies & Scientific Methodologies in Science Education; and the Science Outreach, Science Communication and Lifelong Learning.
Ms. Chatzichristou holds at the same time positions as a researcher and Marie Curie Fellow by the Institute of Astronomy & Astrophysics, National Observatory of Athens, Greece and a Lecturer of Astronomy, Physics, Mathematics, and Environmental Science by the City Uninersity of Seattle, Athens, Greece. She has hold previous positions as a researcher by the Yale Center of Astronomy & Astrophysics, Physics Department, Yale University, USA, the Space Telescope Science Institute, Baltimore, USA, the NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Maryland, USA, the University of Leiden, The Netherlands, the European Southern Observatory, La Silla, Chile, the Space Research Organization (SRON), Leiden, The Netherlands, the Uppsala Observatory, Sweden and Observatoire de Paris-Meudon.

Eleni holds several professional memberships, including among others, memberships at the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the American Astronomical Society (AAS), the Hellenic astronomical Society (HELASET), the Board of Directors of the European Institute of Law, Science & Technology. In addition, Eleni is a Co-founder and the Scientific Advisor of the Non-for-Profit Company Astropyli-Serron.
She speaks Greek (native), English (fluent), French (fluent), Spanish (fluent), Dutch (basic.)
