Nicole Freund was born near Atlantic City, New Jersey, determined to combine her passion for nature, language and politics to make the world a better place. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and an emphasis on creative writing and political activism. Nicole then jumped into the exciting world of traveling with a six-month English Language Teaching position at the Beijing-USA College of English in Beijing, China. In 2005, she embarked upon her Master's Studies in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden.

Nicole completed the program in the Fall of 2007 with the achievement of her thesis project entitled “Grounds for Change: The Synergies and Trade-Offs of Fair Trade Versus Free Trade Coffee.” For one year she acted as the Communications Manager of the small, start-up multimedia CAD training company, Softeacher International, and then did some consulting work for Voice Professional as an English textbook Narrator and business document Editor.

Nicole is currently joining the team at EILST in their efforts to establish a Climate Change Center for Europe and the Mediterranean in order to responsibly manage the effects of Global Climate Change.
