Olga Babakina
Olga Babakina
Ms. Olga Babakina is a founding member of the EILST Environmental and Energy team. Ms. Babakina is currently a Manager of Projects at Russian Carbon Fund, a leading Carbon Finance company in CIS. She is in charge of JI projects implementation, reviewing and negotiating contracts, evaluating technology alternatives and assisting top management in identifying new investment opportunities and writing business plans.
In Central Asia Ms. Babakina was a Head of the Project of Business Development Department at KSS, a leading EPC contractor company which was awarded construction of Kazakhstan-China pipeline and other major infrastructure projects. Her work included preparation of bid documentation for tenders, coordinating work of technology & license providers and international engineering companies.
After graduation from Yale Ms. Babakina joined Corporate Banking Group at ICICI bank where she worked in partnership with Project Finance Group, Risk Management Group, Structured Finance Group and Technology Finance Group to develop new financial products targeted at facilitating commodity trade between European and Asian countries.
Based in New York, Ms. Babakina prepared forecast reports for a Wall Street investment research and advisory firm, specializing in assessing financial risks and revenue opportunities for US companies created by climate change policies and carbon markets.
She also worked for the Energy group at UNDP and coordinated budgeting and donor reporting to the WB, GEF, EBRD and other international development institutions. Prior to that, Ms. Babakina was co-manager of a new program for Sakhalin II Liquefied LNG project launched by the Economic Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
In between, Ms. Babakina was associated with Tacis program of the European Commission, Asia-Carbon Exchange, Connecticut Clean Energy Fund and Public-Private-Partnership Network.
She has a number of publications on development finance, carbon trading, corporate social responsibility, project financing and alternative investments.
Ms. Babakina received a master’s degree in Industrial Management from Yale University and is a graduate of Moscow State University. She also holds certificates in Structured Project Finance and International Banking from IFMR.
