The Metropolitan of Singapore held a meeting with Dr. Dionysia – Theodora Avgerinopoulou, Executive Director of the European Institute of Law, Science and Technology, on Wednesday, January 16th, 2019. During the meeting, the Metropolitan of Singapore informed Dr. Avgerinopoulou on shipping issues as well as the major actions undertaken by the St. Nicholas Leadership Club of Singapore founded by the Orthodox Metropolitanate of Singapore & South Asia of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 2008. The meeting was, also, attended by Mr. Isidoros Pachoundakis, Vice President of Council in Maritime Studies at the St. Thomas Polytechnic –OMSGSA, and Mr. Stratos Spyrou, Academic Leader of the e-learning Programs at the University of Piraeus and CEO of the Institute of International Nautical Studies.
Dr. Avgerinopoulou was briefed on these actions, while a fruitful dialogue followed, to further strengthen both the St. Nicholas Leadership Club of Singapore and the S.E. Asia Maritime Action Project. She was delighted to be appointed Head of St. Nicholas Leadership Club, combining her experience, expertise and knowledge in maritime issues and the protection of the oceans through the ongoing promotion of Sustainable Development Goal 14 regarding life below water (SDG14).
The St. Nicholas Leadership Club of Singapore was founded with the key responsibility of catering networking and professional advice regarding the conformance of the S. Asia Maritime Action Project to the needs of the shipping sector. In a rapidly changing business ecosystem, Maritime Action is expected to amplify its responsiveness to contemporary challenges. This Club consists of distinguished individuals and leading professionals, widely acknowledged for their critical input to the Singapore as well as the global shipping scene. Their precious experience, knowledge and dedication undoubtedly leads to the amelioration and further advancement of the S.E. Asia Maritime Action Project. The S.E.Asia Maritime Action Project was created in order to provide and promote education and training services for individuals, clergy and seafarers of the international community, by the Orthodox Metropolitanate of Singapore & South Asia and the Institute of International Nautical Studies through the St.Thomas Polytechnic (Singapore). A core focus of the St. Nicholas Leadership Club of Singapore is to create and strengthen dialogue in the shipping sector bringing together institutions and people, promoting Maritime Affairs within society, giving prospects for individual and collective development of Maritime Entrepreneurship, mobility and education.
